The online graduate certificate in cybersecurity technology from University of Maryland Global Campus will provide you with current knowledge and skills for protecting critical cyber infrastructure and assets. Learn concepts, real-world applications, and practical techniques in a curriculum that features emerging topics in the field and was developed by an advisory board of senior security executives.

Required Courses (12 credits)

Take the following courses in the order listed:

  • (6 Credits, CST 610)
  • (6 Credits, CST 620)

Overall Graduate Certificate Requirements

  • All courses must be taken in the order listed.
  • You must complete each course with a grade of B or better to advance to the next course.
  • The grade of C is not available for these courses.
  • The courses in this program will have seven-day and 60-day options for the grade of Incomplete.

Time Limits for Graduate Certificates

You must complete the requirements for a graduate certificate within five consecutive years. The time limit is calculated from the term in which you successfully complete the first credit course that applies to the program. It does not include the introductory courses DCL 600 and CBR 600 but does include courses transferred from other institutions.

Course Rules and Program Progression

  • You must complete each course with a grade of B or better to advance to the next course. 
  • The grade of C is not available for these courses.

Accelerated Pathway

If you completed your undergraduate degree at UMGC with a major in cybersecurity technology, an accelerated pathway between UMGC undergraduate and graduate programs in cybersecurity allows you to earn 6 credits toward the following programs:

To be eligible for the pathway, you must enroll in a related graduate program within two years of completing Network Security (3 Credits, CMIT 320) and Current Trends and Projects in Computer Networks and Cybersecurity (3 Credits, CMIT 495).

If eligible, you may be awarded credit for one of the following courses

  • Cyberspace and Cybersecurity Foundations(6 Credits, CST 610) in the graduate cybersecurity technology programs
  • Communicating, Problem-Solving, and Leading in Cybersecurity(6 Credits, CBR 600) in the graduate cybersecurity management and policy or digital forensics and cyber investigation programs
  • Decisive Thinking, Communicating, and Leading in Technology Fields(6 Credits, DCL 600T) in the graduate cloud computing systems or cyber operations programs

 You may only earn credit for one course through this accelerated pathway.

Experience Recommended For Success

This program is designed for midcareer professionals or those new to the field. If you do not have work experience in information technology, computer networks, or databases, we strongly recommend you take ASC 605. If you have not taken programming courses, we strongly encourage you to take ASC 609. We recommend ASC 601 if you'd like to improve your graduate writing skills.
