Information Technology with Project Management Concentration

Gain advanced IT management skills while building expertise for your project management certification with an online master’s degree in information technology with a project management concentration from UMGC. The concentration courses include project risk management, project procurement management, and advanced project methods, while the core IT courses give you the tools you need to take on leadership roles.
Mission Statement: The mission of the project management concentration is to complement general business management and information technology (IT) skills with a robust combination of foundational and advanced project management expertise that equips business and IT managers (from the MSM and MSIT degree programs) to effectively manage and lead a wide spectrum of projects—ranging from simple to exceptionally large and complex. The overarching goal is to emphasize and develop a blend of hard and soft skills that prepares students for management and leadership roles in any industry or work environment.

(3 Credits, ITEC 640) (or an approved course in finance) and (3 Credits, MGMT 650) (or an approved course in statistics) are prerequisites to (3 Credits, PMAN 635). If you lack a recent background in finance or accounting, it is recommended to take UCSP 620. If you lack a recent background in statistics, it is recommended to take UCSP 630. Taking UCSP 605 is recommended to help improve writing skills.

UMGC master's degree programs with project management specializations are recognized by the Global Accreditation Center (GAC) of the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Academic Relationship
Completing this program earns you the project management education hours required to sit for the Project Management Professional (PMP) Credential Examination or the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) Exam. If you are already certified as a Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute, you may receive credit for (3 Credits, PMAN 634) if you begin study for the master's degree within five years of earning certification. The MBA degree program requires 36 credits of coursework. Courses must be taken sequentially. An introductory course (PRO 600) may be waived for students who already have a graduate degree. You must complete each course with a grade of B or better to advance to the next course. The grade of C is not available for these courses.
Specialized Program Accreditation
