Admission Requirements

Before enrolling in any graduate accounting course, you must do one of the following: 

  • Complete 15 credits of undergraduate accounting courses, with a grade of C or better in each course; upon submission of an official transcript, you may be accepted into the program with fewer than the required 15 credits, but you must complete that coursework before enrolling in your first graduate accounting course. 
  • Earn a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license as determined by a State Board of Accountancy; upon submission of documentation and verification of your having earned a CPA license, you may enroll in a graduate accounting course. 

 

Total Credits Required: 36

  • Accounting Courses: 18
  • Financial Management Courses: 15
  • Required Capstone Course: 3

Initial Requirement 

  • (0 Credits, UCSP 615) 

This course must be taken within the first 6 credits of study (if required). The UCSP 615 requirement may be waived if you previously earned a graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution. For more information, contact your academic advisor.

You will need to take 18 credits in accounting, 15 credits in financial management, and a 3-credit capstone course.

  • Take two of the following courses for a total of 6 credits:

Financial Management Courses

  • Take one of the following courses for a total of 3 credits:

Course Progression & Prerequisites 

  • (3 Credits, ACCT 610) is prerequisite to all graduate accounting courses. 
  • (3 Credits, ACCT 628) should be taken before (3 Credits, ACCT 630). 
  • (3 Credits, FIN 610) is prerequisite to all other FIN courses except (3 Credits, FIN 605). 
  • (3 Credits, FIN 645) is the only course that can be taken simultaneously with MSAF 670. 

General Master's Degree Requirements

  • You must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher at all times.
  • All degree requirements must be fulfilled within five consecutive years.
  • Any transfer credits must have been earned within the above five-year time frame to be applied toward a graduate degree.

Accelerated Pathway

If you completed your undergraduate degree at UMGC with coursework in accounting, an accelerated pathway between UMGC's graduate and undergraduate degree programs in that field may allow you to reduce your total coursework for this program by up to 6 credits.
