Our student organizations aim to provide members with professional growth, leadership development, and a sense of community. They include academic-focused groups where students can engage with career-related topics and opportunities and interest-based groups that provide students with ways to support and connect with each other through a shared purpose.
Students, alumni, staff, and faculty who join a student organization are encouraged to be active participants in a variety of ways. This may include attending events, collaborating on projects, contributing to activities, and serving in leadership roles. Students can find a majority of the student organizations’ virtual communities along with some informal groups within CareerQuest Groups (UMGC’s platform for career resources) and on Facebook Groups. Students interested in forming a new student organization should email engagement@umgc.edu for more information.

About the Organizations: The phrase Arts and Letters traditionally refers to the humanities, the study of human culture through literature, philosophy, history, and the arts. Under this tab, there are clubs that emphasize creative expression and intellectual reflection. Here, students can find various ways to express themselves and join wonderful communities:

About the Organization: The Accounting Club focuses on helping to prepare its members for professional opportunities after graduation. The Accounting Club aims to provide networking activities that will help students connect to professionals and related associations and job preparation activities which will include connecting students with internships, offering career-building events, and more.
The mission of the Accounting Club is to inspire and connect diversified accounting enthusiasts through leadership, mentorship, learning, and innovation opportunities.

Available To: Anyone in the UMGC community who has an interest in increasing the awareness of mental health.
About the Organization: Active Minds at UMGC aims to increase the awareness of mental health and reduce the stigma of mental illness within the UMGC community. The chapter will accomplish this by hosting a safe place to have peer conversations about mental health and to share stories, providing self-care activities to promote positive well-being, sharing information about mental health resources available both on campus and in the community, and organizing events and other activities designed to reduce stigma and raise awareness of mental health to the greater UMGC community.

About the Organization: The American Marketing Association- UMGC Chapter's mission (AMA|UMGC) is to provide members of all majors with greater exposure to experiences in the marketing industry through professional growth opportunities, leadership development, and academic recognition. While marketing majors are encouraged to join the organization, entrepreneurs, communications majors and those who want to learn about marketing will also have a meaningful experience.
Through the combined resources of UMGC and the AMA, members will be provided with the resources necessary to help them navigate the ever-changing world of marketing through exposure to dynamic speakers, hands-on workshops, and opportunities to enhance their classroom knowledge.
In addition, our goal is for members to receive exposure to leading practitioners and faculty both and within and outside UMGC through a shared learning environment. We believe this will prepare students for the workplace and business world by utilizing tools and experiences offered by the chapter and the AMA.
Membership Information: Undergraduate students who are interested in joining the AMA|UMGC Chapter should complete the AMA|UMGC Chapter Application.

About the Organization: The Applied Humanities Club seeks to unite students and members of the university community who are interested in humanities fields and how humanities skills can enrich other professional fields. We aim to collaborate, offer support, and foster professional development. In our recent past, we've held events such as informative talks by humanities professionals, talent showcases, and networking events so you can connect with other students. This Applied Humanities Club was the winner of a 2021 UMGC Student Organization Best-in-Show Activities and Events Award!

About the Organization: The Behavioral and Social Science Student Association provides its members with information and resources on careers in social science-related fields. About the Organization: The Cyber Competition Team represents UMGC at various cybersecurity events and highly competitive tournaments nationwide. Being a member of the team allows students to develop their cybersecurity skills and to network with other students with similar interests. About the Organization: The Environmental Awareness Club aims to create a learning community online (and face-to-face when possible) to support interests, activities, and careers related to the environment. The Club will offer opportunities for both students looking to work in the fields of environmental health and safety as well as students who have a general interest in learning more about and/or preserving the environment. About the Organization: The organization's mission is to broaden the membership's knowledge and specializations of finance, promote students’ interest in the finance industry, and promote finance-related activities and careers throughout the University of Maryland Global Campus community. The UMGC Finance Club organizes activities that enable members to learn about financial literacy and to explore finance careers. About the Organization: The History Student Society brings together students, alumni, faculty, and staff who have a shared interest in history and provides them with a space to exchange ideas, plan and host activities, and help fellow members advance into the field. This student organization won the 2022, 2023, and 2024 Student Organization of the Year Awards, and the 2023 Best-in-Show Activities and Events Award.

About the Organization: The IEEE-UMGC Branch provides members with experience and growth opportunities in the field of technology and computer science through various events such as seminars and competitions. In addition, this club also provides networking assistance to students by connecting them with professionals in various fields. An association with the IEEE Region 2 D.C. section will give student members access to all the funding, mentorship, and networking provided by this specific section of the IEEE.
Membership Information: Students should obtain an IEEE membership at https://www.ieee.org/membership/join/index.html. In order to gain IEEE student membership, students must be enrolled at least half-time at UMGC in a program of study in association with IEEE-designated fields. The designated fields are engineering, computer sciences and information technology, physical sciences, biological and medical sciences, mathematics, technical communications, education, management, and law and policy.
The group also has an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Student Branch at UMGC CareerQuest group that is open to any student, alumnus, staff, or faculty member who is interested in supporting the chapter or attending chapter events.

Available To: Any graduate or undergraduate student, alumni, faculty or staff member with an interest in Japanese culture. Students living in or near Yokota, Japan may participate in local club events.
About the Organization: The Japanese Cultural Engagement Club aims to develop a connection and sense of community for our students in Yokota, Japan, a foreign country far from home. We want to engage and support students with understanding and give them opportunities to explore the local community. A primary focus will be on community volunteering and the fostering of relationships, which will help to support students as they learn the language.
We also hope to provide a space within the larger global community of students, staff, and faculty to engage in discussions and share information on Japanese culture. By sharing events and other information, students in different locations can learn from each other and gain new perspectives.

About the Organization: The LGBTQ+ Student Association serves to foster an environment where LGBTQ+ students, alumni, faculty, staff, and allies come together in the spirit of activism, allyship, community, education and professional development. Designed through a community leadership style, the LGBTQ+ Student Association aims to bring together a group of like-minded individuals who are passionate about LGBTQ+ issues or who may want to learn more about them. Through educational resources, professional speakers, social events, and service opportunities, the LGBTQ+ Student Association aims to provide a safe and educational environment for the broader UMGC campus.

About the Organization: The National Society of Leadership and Success is a national society that focuses on leadership development and volunteerism. The society is founded on the core beliefs that one can achieve one's dreams with the proper support and dedicated action and that we accomplish more together than we would achieve alone. Prospective members undergo a rigorous training program that prepares them for leadership in the academic arena, as well as the workplace.

About the Organization: UMGC Power Speakers serves as the university's chapter of Toastmasters International, a world leader in communication and leadership development. The club provides an encouraging environment for those who want to improve their public speaking skills and gain the confidence to become more effective communicators. About the Organization: Joining the UMGC Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management allows you to network with other students, staff, and faculty who are currently working in or are interested in entering the human resource field. Members share information, experiences, and knowledge. The chapter hosts monthly events designed to help students meet local professionals and transition into or advance within the field. In addition, the chapter provides leadership and student development opportunities for members.

About the Organization: The STEM Club is more than just an academic club—it is a shared community, a support system for students pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics fields while serving the military overseas. Designed to enhance engagement and bring students together over shared interests, the club will organize a variety of activities, including both local and virtual study groups, content specific workshops, hands-on experiences, industrial and business site visits, and a guest speaker series. Above all, the STEM Club seeks to offer students opportunities for academic growth and exploration, while developing connections through networking events and social gatherings.
This group is primarily based in Europe with a virtual presence. The UMGC STEM Club is dedicated to making a positive impact on the next generation of STEM minds through positive experiences, while also providing a space within the larger global community of students, staff and faculty to engage in discussions, explore new perspectives, and share information.

About the Organization: The SVA: UMGC Chapter offers its members information and support on benefits, academics, and policies. Within the club, students can network with faculty, staff, and peers and share their stories. The SVA: UMGC Chapter offers online and in-person fellowship for active-duty servicemembers and veterans serving in the United States and abroad. Members work to ensure that students who are military-affiliated and veterans have a voice on campus. The club provides peer support and mentorship to aid students in academic success, career advancement, networking, and transition support.

About the Organization:
UMGC Europe Book Club: Dedicated to discussions on monthly featured books. The book club offers open dialogues to include attending webinars and events, both virtually and on-site, throughout the year.
UMGC Europe Movie Club: Monthly discussion group meetings are held on one Saturday per month. The movie club welcomes input on the featured movie, which consists of classics, blockbusters, and cult favorites. The movie club allows film buffs to express their opinions in an open dialogue hosted virtually via Zoom.
UMGC Europe STEM Club: The STEM Club supports students pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics while serving the military overseas. The STEM Club seeks to offer students opportunities for academic growth and exploration while developing connections through networking events and social gatherings.

About the Organization: The national mission of WiCyS is to recruit, retain and advance women in cybersecurity to build a robust and diverse cybersecurity workforce. Their vision is a world where the cybersecurity workforce is an inclusive space.
The mission of the Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) Student Chapter at University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is to build a community within UMGC that promotes women’s education, participation, and leadership in the field of cybersecurity. The WiCyS Student Chapter at UMGC is organized for the following purposes:
1. To decrease the gender disparity in cybersecurity at UMGC.
2. To provide education, mentorship, and networking support to cybersecurity and information technology students at UMGC through the WiCyS community.
