Learn the Principles, Ethics, & Key Concepts of AI

This program is designed to give you the tools and AI knowledge you will need to contribute to an organization right away. You’ll have the opportunity to choose between two tracks—AI applications and AI developer—each based on employer profiles. In the AI applications track, you’ll learn how to interact ethically, productively, and creatively with AI tools and leverage AI strategically and operationally across a wide variety of industry sectors. In the AI developer track, you’ll acquire the technical skills required to create and deploy responsible AI solutions to increase productivity, help make business decisions, and create new AI-based products and services.

Bachelor's General Education Requirements

If you completed your undergraduate degree at UMGC with a major in data science, an accelerated pathway between UMGC’s undergraduate and graduate programs allows you to reduce your total coursework for the MS in Data Analytics or a graduate certificate program in Business Analytics by 6 credits (two courses). 

To be eligible for the pathway, you must complete the bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. If you are eligible for the pathway, you may be awarded credit for :

  • (3 Credits, DATA 625) and
  • (3 Credits, DATA 635)

You should enroll in the graduate program within two years of completing your undergraduate degree in data science.

Communicate orally and in writing, meeting expectations for content, purpose, organization, audience, and format.

Practice Real-World Skills in Your Artificial Intelligence Courses

Throughout your academic curriculum, your instructors will assign coursework that will help you prioritize real-world skills and experience. Some possible course projects include: 

  • Build a virtual advisor, using reinforcement learning that provides personalized financial and investment management advice. 
  • Examine the transparency and explainability of a black-box AI system used for employee performance evaluation and develop a project to improve the system. 
  • Design prompts for generative AI chatbot to create product descriptions for an online retailer’s catalog based on product images. 
  • Leverage adversarial neural networks for user behavior analysis and insider threat detection.
