In this engaging lecture, Dr. Stock delves into travel narratives and our understanding of history. She will explore how travel writing illuminates power dynamics in globalism and colonialism, emphasizing the necessity for equitable representation. The discussion will touch on the role of travel in empowering women to challenge traditional gender roles and advocate for global women's rights.
Dr. Jessica Stock earned her PhD from Stony Brook University where her research focused on representations of race and ethnicity in constructing nationalism in the 19th and 20th Century British and American novels. She is an avid traveler and reader, serving as the Faculty Advisor to the Field Study Program and the Founder of UMGC Europe Book Club.
