I'm originally from Glasgow and now find myself in Southern Spain after a few years away from the classroom.
Over the years, I've worked in a variety of professional fields; however, education has always been one of my abiding passions. My academic background is in postwar American fiction, particularly the relationship between literature and culture. I enjoy exploring fiction from a historical perspective and bring an interdisciplinary approach to my teaching, encouraging students to think about texts not only as printed works but as part of a wider cultural conversation. This can include using film, audio, visual media, and digital forms alongside traditional literary analysis to open up new ways of engaging with fiction.
In the classroom, I aim to create an inclusive, welcoming, and kind learning environment. My teaching focuses on helping students build confidence in their academic skills, recognize the value of their own lived experience, and feel supported in their educational journey. Outside of teaching, I enjoy traveling, cooking, and a spot of long-distance running. I'm based just outside Cadiz, where I live with my wife and a very energetic - and poorly trained - cockapoo named Ted.
