As a shy child growing up in Virginia, retreating into the pages of a book became second nature to me. Wonder morphed into a love of learning. This love led me to my BA in Classical Studies, and eventually to my MFA in Popular Fiction and Publishing. Through my degrees and my work as an historic interpreter, I began to grasp how interconnected it all was. Writing could bring people to tears or deliver life-changing information, and a well-spoken presentation could make the difference between belief and denial. I joined UMGC in 2026 to support others on their journey and to continue learning in a new role.
My teaching philosophy centers around creativity and fostering an inclusive, constructive environment. Everyone engages with a subject in their own way and with their own approach. Through constructive collaboration, I aim to encourage students to engage with their peers and learn from other perspectives. My goal is to foster the ability in every student to think creatively in order to tailor their knowledge and skills to the task at hand, wherever their career and goals lead them.
In my free time, I can be found reading, writing, traveling, and learning German.
