Dr. LaShawn Thompson joined UMGC Europe in 2019, teaching at locations within the Kaiserslautern Military Community and Baumholder. Before her time with UMGC, she taught for Alcorn State University and worked as a clinical specialist for public and private mental health facilities.

Dr. Thompson’s scholarly background is in the science and the practice of psychology and clinical mental health services. She has southern United States roots and brings her experience, expertise, and a love for southern hospitality to her classroom environment. She is affectionally referred to as DLT by her students. She believes the classroom should be a safe and engaging space to allow students to leave their comfort zones to explore different and new ways of understanding.

Dr. Thompson is active in Diversity & Inclusion efforts both personally and professionally and appreciates the diverse experiences and knowledge her students bring to the classroom.

In her free time, Dr. Thompson enjoys traveling and engaging in creative arts. Additionally, she enjoys good food, laughter, and fellowship with her friends and colleagues.
