I am a lifelong educator and scientist with interdisciplinary experience spanning secondary and postsecondary teaching, biophysical research, and biotechnology. Prior to joining UMGC Europe, I taught physics and Earth Science at the high school level, with a focus on inquiry-based instruction and scientific reasoning. At the university level, I served as a research associate and supported courses in Physical Biochemistry and Methods in Biochemistry at UCLA. My scientific background includes graduate and undergraduate studies in structural and molecular biology, with expertise in spectroscopy, protein structure and dynamics, and a range of biophysical methods. Graduate research interests primarily focused on the structural and dynamical characterization of signal transduction proteins using various methods in Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. I also have some prior industry experience in pharmaceuticals and bulk biologics manufacturing.
My professional work reflects a strong commitment to science education, and my background in molecular biology and biophysics informs a teaching approach that integrates real-world research into the classroom, fostering student engagement and scientific literacy. I am fully committed to inclusive, student-centered instruction and to preparing learners to view themselves as capable scientists. There has never been a better time to be a student or a scientist!
Outside the classroom, I enjoy playing guitar and writing music, competitive ice hockey with the Aviano Ice Dragons, collaborating with former research colleagues, staying current with the latest scientific advances, and appreciating all that Italy has to offer with my wonderful friends and family.
