Professor Carl Scharpf has taught with UMGC for over 20 years. Prior to that, he worked at Microsoft as a programmer and at the University of Southern California (USC) as a network administrator and adjunct professor. He loves hiking in national forests and going on vacations with his wife, Monika.

Professor Scharpf has an MSIT from UMGC, an MS from USC, and a BA from the University of Florida.

In the 1990's, Professor Scharpf wrote several books, including Computers in Context and Projects in Microsoft Works. The latter sold over 120,000 copies.

Professor Scharpf resides in the United Kingdom where he teaches mathematics, statistics, and computer information systems.
