I discovered my passion for biology as a child by exploring the outdoors in my hometown of Lake Placid, ,Florida. My curiosity grew into a technical understanding during my time as an ornithology intern and ecology camp counselor at Archbold Biological Station in Venus, Florida. I furthered my knowledge by earning a BS in Biology from Florida State University, complemented by an additional education major though the FSU-Teach program. I was also able to earn my MS in Soil, Water, and Ecosystem Sciences from the University of Florida while living abroad. i then joined UMGC in 2024, teaching biology and nutrition classes in Stuttgart, Germany.
My research interests include evolutionary morphology and utilizing bioassessments to evaluate wetland health.
Through my previous teaching appointments, I have taught students in hybrid, virtual, and in-person settings. My teaching philosophy focuses on invoking student's curiosity, fostering critical thinking, and demonstrating real-world applications of course material. I aim to inspire students to become lifelong learners who actively engage in class dialogue and activities. I also strive to create a rigorous classroom environment while still accommodating the unique challenges faced by students on a military base.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending my time traveling, swimming, and exploring hiking trails with my husband and our two dogs.
