My name is Dr. Alaa Afifi. Since 2004, I have been teaching for UMGC in the Europe division as an adjunct professor in Manama, Bahrain. I hold a PhD from Alexandria University. I found that my forte is teaching the Arabic language to expatriates and have taught, not only for UMGC, but also for the American embassy, the NSA Bahrain installation, and the Directorate of Adult Education. I was even appointed as the school principal at the Ministry of Education until retired in 2017.Currently, I teach a variety of courses at UMGC, but my specializations are the Arabic language (all levels) and Middle Eastern cultures.
I was nominated by UMGC Europe students and was selected as a Drazek award recipient and was recognized at the UMGC Europe commencement ceremony held at Ramstein in April 2023. I was rewarded the “ Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award” for several years.
When I am not teaching, I like to travel to relieve my mind and for the adventure to different places. Travelling helps me to understand different cultures and explore new cities.
During the summer intervals, I have traveled to many Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Europe is another destination to which I always love to travel. To date, I have visited Finland, France, Germany and the United Kingdom to name a few.
