UMGC Europe Presents: NATO-Bunker (Air Defense Operations Center - Kindsbach)

image includes a photo of Professor Michael Mulvey

Attention Vault Dwellers!

The German army constructed what became the NATO Air Defense Operations Center prior to the start of the Second World War. During WW2, the bunker served as German Western Front HQ. After the war, the French military used the facility to store munitions. In 1954, the U.S. Air Force took command and constructed a control facility to outlast the nuclear apocalypse. The U.S. decommissioned the bunker in 1993.

  • Entry fee for guided tour in English is 10 euros. Each participant must have a personal flashlight. The bunker has no electricity. The bunker may be frightening to those who have issues with dark and/or confined spaces. Dress appropriately for a potentially cold underground bunker.

Approximate location of entry portal: Am Wingertshübel 18, 66862 Kindsbach Parking is available in proximity for 5-6 vehicles nearby and at pull-up to bunker. There’s additional parking within walking distance.
