Bad History: Why we get history wrong, how can we get it right.

You’re Invited to a Virtual Webinar

UMGC Europe Presents "Bad History: Why we get history wrong, how can we get it right." A timely conversation with special guest Ben Sawyer, historian, comedian, and co-host of the popular podcast "The Road to Now."

Join us for a conversation about why we get history wrong and how we can get it right. A popular saying is that history repeats itself. If that is true, then why do we get it wrong? If not true, then what can we learn from history to help us understand life today? The panel will enlighten us on history (right or wrong), make us laugh, and provide an opportunity to learn more about how history affects current events. Our panel consists of a nationally known historian, a UMGC Europe student ambassador, and Dr. Malcolm Magee, UMGC History Professor.

Ben Sawyer is a nationally known historian with a broad audience. He has over two decades of experience teaching at the university level. Ben's media engagement includes his podcast, The Road to Now, which he has co-hosted with The Avett Brothers Bob Crawford since 2016. He has been a weekly fixture on SiriusXM's non-partisan talk radio station, POTUS 124, since December of 2022. He has also appeared on some of the most listened-to podcasts in the US, including History That Doesn't Suck with Greg Jackson, Lovett or Leave It, and My History Can Beat Up Your Politics. His writing and expertise on Russia have also appeared in The Washington Post's Made By History and Forbes

Brooke Sorenson is a student (and Student Ambassador) at the University of Maryland Global Campus, pursuing a BA in History and a minor in Communications. She serves active duty in the United States Air Force at Aviano Air Base, where she hosts the afternoon radio show for the American Forces Network (AFN) Aviano.

Malcolm Magee has been an Overseas Collegiate Professor with UMGC since 2018. Dr. Magee earned his Ph.D. in international history, philosophy, and American religious history from Michigan State University. He believes teaching should be creative chaos, foster innovation, and break from the standardization that has been our students' norm since age five.
