Earn a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from UMGC and build a firm base of knowledge to boost your career in a variety of communication sectors. The curriculum, designed with input from employers, industry experts, and scholars, combines theories with real-world applications and practical skills to help you better convey information to a variety of populations. Whether you’re interested in journalism, public relations, business, or digital communication, this degree will help you master communication within ethical, legal, and financial parameters.

This program is also available as a minor.

Beautiful and useful, Italian is also one of the languages that the Foreign Service Institute ranks as easy to learn for native English speakers.

With a bachelor’s degree in social science from University of Maryland Global Campus, you'll gain perspectives from the fields of anthropology, the behavioral sciences, gerontology, psychology, and sociology. You'll also have the opportunity to drill down and focus on one of these fields to advance your professional experience. The curriculum, designed with input from employers, industry experts, and scholars, combines theories with real-world applications and practical skills.

  • Integrate theoretical perspectives and research findings in the social sciences by using quantitative and qualitative data and applying social science research methods
  • Communicate effectively to a variety of audiences
  • Explain how micro- and macro-level factors are linked in the social lives of individuals, communities, and societies
  • Analyze complex social problems and work toward realistic solutions using awareness, acceptance, and appreciation of diversity, social factors, and global multicultural perspectives
  • Recognize the ethical principles and standards for professional conduct that guide the work of social scientists
  • Apply critical and creative thinking, information literacy, technology, and interdisciplinary perspectives to solve practical problems in the social sciences
